A historical reinterpretation of the city of Khoy during the Safavid period, based on the miniature of Motraqchi from the perspective of tourists

Abstract
The city of Khoy, with its natural talents, geographical location, and military characteristics, was one of the ancient Iranian settlements. The Safavid period is one of the important historical periods for the city of Khoy. However, due to the weakness of historical sources, there are many ambiguities and contradictions regarding the structure and location of the city in this period. The oldest surviving visual document of the city of Khoy is a miniature drawn by Nasuh, a well-known painter of Sultan Suleiman Qanouni, known as Motraqchi, during the Ottoman government's campaigns against Iran between 42-940 AH/1533-36 Maz. Reinterpreting the aforementioned miniature requires matching historical sources, including travelogues, with pictorial elements. Therefore, the aim of the present article is to reinterpret the city of Khoy in the Safavid period, citing Motraqchi's miniature from the perspective of tourists. To achieve the goal, primary data collection was done through historical-documentary method and data analysis was done through analytical-comparative method. The results of the research indicate that the city of Khoy during the Safavid period had important characteristic elements such as: the Grand Mosque, the Shahi Palace, the Kale-Shak Minaret and the bazaar. Also, the east-west extension of the city started from the Grand Mosque and ended before the Shakhi Minaret, with the bazaar and the Shahi Palace located in a place between these two elements.
